The international conference
“Beyond the Protagonist: Supporting Characters in Big Screen Greece and Rome”
will take place online on April 24–25, 2026 (USA, UK, and EU) and April 25–26, 2026 (Australasia).

The conference is organized by Konstantinos P. Nikoloutsos (Saint Joseph’s University, USA) under the auspices of EuGeStA (Gender Studies and Classical Scholarship), and explores the role and significance of supporting characters in cinematic representations of ancient Greece and Rome.

The program features contributions from international scholars and addresses a range of themes, including:

• representations of female power and influence,
• supporting male characters in Greek tragedy adaptations,
• male bonding and identity in epic narratives,
• mediation of power and identity in cinematic antiquity,
• and the depiction of “the Other” in Roman-themed films.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required via the designated form.
