After the publication of Aeschylus’ Oresteia in the translation by Georgios Sotiriadis (transcription, editing, introduction: Anna Mavroleon, Associate Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, University of Peloponnese) and after the publication of Euripides’ Orestes in translation by the playwright, director, translator, theatre critic Giorgos Sevastikoglou (transcription, editing, introduction: Konstantina Ziropoulou, Assistant Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, University of Patras), the Laboratory of Ancient Drama and Theatre Research of the Department of Theatre Studies NKUA and Kapa Editions publish Euripides’ Troian Women in the translation by the philologist, scholar, writer, translator Κostis Kolotas, with editing and introduction by Katerina Arvaniti, Associate Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, University of Patras. The translation supported, for the first time, the performance of the play in 1982 by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, directed by Nikos Charalambous and, most recently, in 2017 and 2018 by Theatre Attis & Pafos - European Capital of Culture 2017, directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos.
The translations are published in the framework of the research project “PLOUTOS_21: Unpublished translations of ancient drama: Identification - Recording - Collection – Evaluation”, under the scientific direction by Kaiti Diamantakou, Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies NKUA, Director of the Laboratory of Ancient Drama and Theatre Research and Scientific Coordinator of the above research project.
