PUBLICATION OF SOPHOCLES’ OEDIPUS AT COLONUS, TRANSLATED ΒY ANGELOS TERZAKIS

Within the framework of the research project “PLUTUS 21: Unpublished Translations of Ancient Drama: Identification – Documentation – Collection – Evaluation”, Kapa Publishing (2026) released the translation of Sophocles' Oedipus at Colonus by Angelos Terzakis (1907-1979). This translation, completed in 1972, had remained previously unpublished as a standalone volume and unperformed to this day.

Angelos Terzakis was a distinguished man of letters, playwright, theatrical translator, critic, columnist, essayist, and screenwriter. A member of the Academy of Athens and a multi-award-winning author, he was deeply intertwined for decades with the National Theatre of Greece, serving in various administrative and educational roles during both its pre-war and post-war periods.

Transcription, editing, and introduction for this edition were provided by Alexandros Koen, Theatre Scholar, Director, Translator, Artistic Director of the “Iasmos” Drama School, and member of the core research team for the project “Unpublished Translations of Ancient Drama: Identification – Documentation – Collection – Evaluation”.
