LABORATORY OF ANCIENT DRAMA AND THEATRE RESEARCH

DATABASE: “PROTEUS” – DATABASE: “PROTEUS” – MODERN GREEK TRANSLATIONS OF ANCIENT GREEK DRAMA

The Proteus Database aims to map and provide data on the broad field of published and unpublished Modern Greek translations of Ancient Drama.

The Database resulted from the synergy of two research projects, which were initiated and formally completed, yet continue to operate institutionally and essentially within the Laboratory of Ancient Drama and Theatre Research of the Department of Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA):

  • The scientific project “Translations of Ancient Drama in the New Millennium” (PROTEUS 21).
  • The scientific project “Unpublished Translations of Ancient Drama: Identification – Documentation – Collection – Evaluation” (PLUTUS 21), which was approved under the "Action for the Utilization of the Konstantinos A. Tsagadas Trust: Research in Post-Classical Studies."

The objective is to continuously enrich the Database with, on the one hand, past and future editorial and performance data, and on the other, the collection of relevant criticism, the mapping of morphological and qualitative characteristics of the translations, and finally, the formulation of a classification model for different "genres" of translation.

The database is hosted, via the NKUA technical services, on the Government Cloud of GRNET S.A. (National Infrastructures for Research and Technology) and is accessible at:  http://proteus.translations.theatre.uoa.gr/HEURIST/heurist/?db=Proteus_21&website=7620&lang=EL&pageid=7674
